FAQ's

Should you have a question that is not covered in our list hereunder, please let us know.

Q1: What is the PNRA Security Scheme?
A1: The PNRA Security Scheme is a security initiative operated by the PNRA,  on behalf of and for the benefit of, the Parktown North (PTN) community as a  whole.  The PNRA  has been in existence since
1996 and was registered as a Non- Profit Company in July 2016
(NPC: 2016/161872/08).

Q2: How will the Scheme operate?
A2: The Scheme's  Administrator takes care of day-to-day operations.  A Security Committee consisting of PTN community members will monitor and manage the performance of 24/7.  At the PNRA AGM, PNRA Directors and Security Committee members are elected. Appointed auditors review the accounts annually.  Dedicated vehicles are added to the suburb when the subscription rate reaches the point that the costs of the vehicle are fully covered.  In the meantime, 24/7 has two armed response vehicles in PTN.

Q3: Why appoint a Security Service Provider on behalf of the community?
A3: This gives the PNRA the opportunity to use the power of the collective to negotiate the
best rates for, and to monitor and manage, service levels to acceptable professional standards.

Q4: We already have a street guard and CCTV cameras.  What is the next step?
A4:  Each existing street guarding scheme is a street initiative.  You and the others contributing to the street guard will have to make a decision about whether or not to continue with your current service provider.  24/7 has the capability to take over street guarding and to monitor a CCTV system that is already in place.

Q5: Is signing a debit order the only way to pay for participation in the Scheme?
A5: No.  Our preferred methods of
payment are debit orders or stop orders as this minimises admin costs.  We also accept EFT payments but ask that you please pay timeously.

Q6: I already have an armed response contract. How easy is it to move to the Scheme?
A6:  Current armed response contracts can be cancelled by giving one calendar month's notice, in terms of the Consumer Protection Act.  Our Administrator can assist you if required.  A new radio transmitter is installed at no charge to those who sign up to the Scheme.  24/7 prefers not to use keys to access your property due to the associated security risk.  Their preference is access via digipad, which can be added at a later date if there are budget constraints.  Please call our Administrator if you need any further assistance.

Q7: How do I leave the Scheme?
A7:  Simply given the PNRA and 24/7 the same calendar month's notice.

Q8: Why do you need my personal information?
A8: The PNRA and the Scheme need to be able to contact you with information and in the case of an emergency.  The PNRA subscribes to a strict Privacy Policy, and your information will not be shared with third parties without your permission.

Q9: Does the Scheme cover residences, businesses and complexes?
A9: Yes, the Scheme covers all those living and working in PTN.

Q10: Is the Scheme legal?

A10: Yes.  A Service Level Agreement with 24/7 Security Services commits them to operating within the law, and to agreed service standards.  Their performance will be monitored weekly and monthly.

Q11: How will the Scheme work with SAPS, other security service providers and other residents' associations?
A11: The Scheme has already established good working relationships with Parkview SAPS, and other relevant groups through regular weekly and monthly meetings.  The PNRA aims to enhance, not replace, the services of SAPS, and has its full support.

Q12: SAPS already patrols, so why do we need additional services?
A12:  The reality is that SAPS does not have access to sufficient resources to give full effect to their fight against crime.  Parktown North falls into Sector ONE which includes Craighall Park, Dunkeld West and Parkhurst, and they share one dedicated SAPS vehicle.

Q13: How was 24/7 Security Services chosen?
A13: In view of the fact that the last service provider appointed no longer wishes to work with the PNRA, the PNRA went back to the results of the 2015 Tender.  The other service provider shortlisted in the top two was CSS which confirmed that their tender prices remained valid.  24/7 was invited to make a submission for the defined services within the parameters of the 2015 Tender.  24/7 submitted a competitive price, submitted the documents as required in the Tender, and was subjected to a financial health assessment.  References on 24/7 were obtained from fellow residents' association making use of 24/7 as a service provider.  The results were presented to the PNRA Special General Meeting on 21 September 2016, at which PNRA members voted 94% in favour of appointing 24/7 as the preferred security services provider for Parktown North.
